History: Dodrill-GMR Mechanical Heart. It was the first operational mechanical heart successfully used while performing open heart surgery. It was developed by Dr. Forest Dodrill, and General Motors Research. It measured 10 x 12 x 17 in, and looked like a 12-cylinder engine with six chambers. 1952 [1170x597]
