BASEBALL: Is the Baltimore butthurt real? Is the KC cockiness a thing?

I'm a die-hard Orioles fan. The first season I can clearly remember is the 1989 "Why Not" team with Mickey Tettleton and the Froot Loops. Till this day, I still hate the Toronto Blue Jays. In 1996 the Orioles won the wild card with the most homeruns in the league and then Jeffrey Maier happened. Till this day, I still hate the New York Yankees. And as you know, last week the Orioles lost the AL Championship with a 4 game sweep from the Kansas City Royals, a team, like us, that was one of the worst in the league only a few years ago. I will hate them with every fiber of my being for the rest of my life.Is it because of Hosmer's yelling, or the jawing from Dyson, or Jeremy Guthrie's t-shirt? No,it's because they beat us. Plain and simple, they ended our season and it hurts.Every year, the team that wins the pennant celebrates. Their fans cheer. Some get cocky, some gloat, but most are just happy to win. Is it amplified because the Royals haven't won in so long? Sure. Is it out of the ordinary? No.Every year, the team that loses the pennant is devastated. Their fans sulk. Some get angry, look for excuses, but most are just sad to lose. Is it amplified because the Orioles haven't won in so long? You bet. Is it unprecedented? Of course not. This is what meaningful baseball is all about folks. This is how rivalries are created. Can you even imagine this subreddit during the 2003 and 2004 playoffs? The Yankees, coming off a decade of pro-Yankees media zeitgeist, were now the villains that every single baseball fan was rooting against. When the Red Sox completed their comeback, the vitriol on both sides was far crazier than anything we have seen this year. Boston fans wore "Got Choke?" shirts and bragged and boasted with 86 years of frustration. New York fans had complete meltdowns over everything from the Sox baggy pants and facial hair to the "C" on Varitek's shirt. You bet your ass those guys would have been going into each other's subs and posting the same kind of stuff we are seeing now, only 10 times worse. I can only imagine that the people offended this year are either very young, or are just new to baseball. Personally, I find it extremely entertaining that two teams who were both terrible for so long are now contending and their fanbases are clashing. If the Royals are going to keep winning, their fans need to accept that the teams left in their wake won't like them. They will whine, and blame the umps and lucky breaks and probably resent you and your team for years to come. And if the Orioles are going to remain contenders, the fans need to accept that they can't win 'em all, and the pain of seeing another team celebrate and brag comes with the territory. If you can't stomach either, perhaps you should find a new cellar dwellar to root for.Bottom line: I am not saying "let's all get along" I’m saying "get used to it". via /r/baseball http://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/2k41mg/is_the_baltimore_butthurt_real_is_the_kc/
