I think it would be interesting to scrap the AFC-NFC ideas but keep the divisions intact. Then the playoffs would just be seeded 1-12, top 4 still get first round byes, top 2 homefield advantage. Then matchup #5 vs #12, #6 vs #11, etc. and go from there with highest seed matched up against lowest seed in the next round. What do we gain from AFC-NFC?
