History: The Momsen Lung was a primitive rebreather used by American submariners as emergency escape gear until the early 1960s. It functioned by using soda lime to remove the carbon dioxide. It was only used once in an emergency, when 5 sailors survived the 1944 sinking of USS Tang. (July 1930) [1906x1200]
