NFL: [SERIOUS] Why are pre-season accomplishments (ie run, catch pass, etc.) called a players 'NFL first' when they don't show up on the record books?

I never understood why one would refer to a pre-season touchdown catch/pass/run as a players first in the NFL. No other sport seems to count them unless it's regular season or playoffs via /r/nfl http://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/2d53kp/serious_why_are_preseason_accomplishments_ie_run/
